πŸ› οΈ Setup Guide (Quick Start)

  1. Select your variant β€” CW (clockwise) or CCW (counter-clockwise) based on your thruster mount orientation. When viewed from behind the board, CW spins right; CCW spins left.
  2. Mount the TUNA thruster β€” secure to your board's fin box or custom mount. Ensure the motor cable is routed away from moving parts.
  3. Connect ESC β†’ Thruster β€” plug the 3-phase motor wires into the Manatee 100 Pro. Match phase order (A-B-C); direction can be reversed in VESC Tool if needed.
  4. Connect ESC β†’ Battery β€” use an XT90,AS150 anti-spark connector or waterproof connector with continuous current > 50A. Verify voltage is within 14–84V range before powering on.
  5. Pair VX3 Remote β€” power on ESC first, then remote. You can set it up according to the VX3 user manual.
  6. Configure via VESC Tool (optional) β€” connect via USB to fine-tune motor detection, current limits, and throttle curves for your specific setup.
  7. Water test β€” start at low throttle (10A) in calm water. Gradually increase power. Check all connections are dry before each session.

Q1: Do I need to configure the ESC before use?
For most builds, the kit works out of the box with default VESC settings. However, we recommend running motor auto-detection via VESC Tool (free, PC/Mac) to optimize performance for your specific motor and battery combination. Bluetooth connectivity is also supported.Our support team can provide a recommended config file on request.

Q2: CW vs CCW β€” which variant do I need?
This depends on your thruster's mounting orientation. When looking at the thruster from behind (water-facing side), CW rotates clockwise and CCW rotates counter-clockwise. when viewed from behind the board (water-facing side), CW rotates clockwise and CCW rotates counter-clockwise. Single drive, with the option to freely choose between CW and CCW.If dual drive is required, please select both CW and CCW. If unsure, contact us with your board specs and we'll advise.

Q3: What battery do I need, and is it included?
The kit supports 4S–20S (14–84V). For eFoil use, a 12S–16S LiPo or Li-ion pack (minimum 30A continuous discharge) is recommended. Battery is not included. We recommend sourcing a pack rated for at least 50A burst discharge for full-power performance.

Q4: Is the ESC truly waterproof? What about the connectors?
The Manatee 100 Pro ESC body is waterproof to 5 meters depth. The wire end (where cables exit) is not fully sealed β€” ensure this area is above the waterline or use additional waterproofing (For example, waterproof silicone sealant or waterproof connectors.) on the cable exit point. The VX3 remote is IP67 rated (submersible to 1m for 30 min).

Q5: Can I use this kit for an ROV, AUV, or non-surfboard application?
Yes. The TUNA thruster supports ROV/AUV/USV applications. The UART/CAN interface on the Manatee 100 Pro for autonomous or remotely operated vehicles. Contact us for application-specific wiring diagrams.
