🛠️ Setup Guide

1. Plan your build — confirm your battery voltage (10S–12S recommended for this kit), motor mount type, and board configuration. The Sea Lion ESC is limited to 12S max — do not exceed 44.4V input. The 65111 has a 10mm shaft — verify your propeller hub matches.
2. Mount the motor — secure the 65111 motor into your foil mast pod or motor mount using the standard M5 screws. Route the 12AWG motor wires through the mast or board channel, away from the propeller arc and any moving parts. Attach the matched propeller to the 10mm shaft.
3. Connect motor to ESC — connect the 3 motor phase wires to the Sea Lion ESC phase outputs (A-B-C). Rotation direction can be corrected by swapping any two phase wires — no motor rewiring required. Test rotation direction at low throttle before installing the propeller.
4. Connect water cooling — attach the Sea Lion ESC's 4.6mm water cooling inlet and outlet to your board's water circuit. Ensure water flows through the ESC before running at high current. Secure hose connections with clamps to prevent leaks.
5. Connect battery — use a high-current connector rated for 120A+ (Firduo 120A waterproof connector recommended). Use an anti-spark switch or pre-charge resistor to prevent connector arcing. Verify battery voltage is within 5S–12S (18.5V–44.4V).
6. Connect VX3 receiver to ESC — connect the VX3 receiver signal wire (JR male) to the Sea Lion ESC's PPM signal input. Power the receiver separately from a 5V BEC — the Sea Lion has no BEC output. Pair the VX3 remote with the receiver before first use.
7. Program the ESC — use an LCD Program Card (sold separately) or USB + PC software to calibrate throttle endpoints, set drive direction, and configure low voltage cutoff. Calibrate throttle range with the VX3 remote before first water test.

Q1: What battery do I need, and what voltage range is supported?
The Sea Lion 120A ESC supports 5S–12S LiPo (18.5V–44.4V). The 65111 motor supports up to 14S, but the ESC is the limiting factor — do not exceed 12S (44.4V) with this kit. A 10S–12S LiPo or Li-ion pack with minimum 50A continuous discharge is recommended. The battery is not included — ensure your pack has a BMS capable of sustaining the discharge rate and a high-current connector rated for 120A+.

Q2: The Sea Lion ESC has no BEC. How do I power the VX3 receiver?
The Sea Lion 120A has no BEC output. You must power the VX3 receiver separately using a standalone 5V BEC connected to your battery, or a small receiver battery pack. Connect the BEC output to the receiver's power input, and connect the ESC signal wire (JR male) to the receiver's throttle channel. Do not attempt to draw receiver power from the ESC signal wire.

Q3: Can I upgrade the Sea Lion ESC to a VESC-based system later?
Yes. The 65111 motor and VX3 remote are both compatible with VESC-based ESCs. The Sea Lion 120A ESC uses active water cooling via a 4.6mm cooling pipe — connect the ESC cooling inlet and outlet to your board's water circuit before high-current operation. Always ensure water cooling is active before full-power riding.
