🛠️ Setup Guide

  1. Mount the ESC — secure in a dry, ventilated enclosure or waterproof housing. The ESC body is pressure-resistant but cable exits are NOT waterproof — seal all cable penetrations with waterproof connectors or silicone sealant.
  2. Connect the water cooling loop — attach inlet and outlet hoses to the three-pipe cooling block. Use a small 12V pump to circulate water. Ensure no air pockets in the loop before powering on.
  3. Connect motor wires — plug the 3× 8AWG phase wires (A-B-C) into your motor. Phase order can be corrected in VESC Tool if motor spins in the wrong direction.
  4. Connect battery — use a high-current connector (XT150, AS150, or equivalent) rated for 200A+ continuous. Verify battery voltage is within 14–75V before connecting.
  5. Connect sensor (if used) — plug the motor sensor cable into the ESC sensor port. Supports ABI, HALL, AS5047, AS5048A. Sensorless mode is also available if no sensor is present.
  6. Connect remote receiver — plug into the PPM or UART port. Refer to the port diagram below for pin assignments.
  7. Configure via VESC Tool — connect via USB. Run motor detection wizard, set current limits (max 200A continuous), configure throttle curve, and set protection thresholds. Save configuration before disconnecting.
  8. Test at low power first — start at 20–30% throttle in a safe environment. Verify cooling loop is flowing and ESC temperature is stable before full-power runs.

❓ FAQ

Q1: Is the FD75200 truly waterproof? What precautions do I need to take?
The FD75200 has a pressure-resistant waterproof enclosure body rated to 5 meters depth, but the cable exits (power cord, motor wires, and port cables) are NOT waterproof. You must seal all cable penetrations using waterproof connectors (e.g. AS150, XT150 with O-rings) or marine-grade silicone sealant. Or keep cable exit points above the waterline whenever possible.

Q2: What motor is this ESC designed for?
The FD75200 is optimized for the Firduo 65162 120KV Waterproof Motor in eFoil and electric surfboard applications. It is also compatible with any BLDC motor that operates within the 14–75V / 200A continuous range. Sensored (ABI, HALL, AS5047, AS5048A) and sensorless operation are both supported. Contact us with your motor specs if you need compatibility confirmation.

Q3: Do I need a water cooling system, and how do I set it up?
Yes — the FD75200 requires active water cooling to sustain 200A continuous current. The three-pipe cooling block is built into the ESC. You need to connect a small external water pump (12V, 3–5 L/min flow rate recommended) and hoses to circulate water through the cooling block. Use silicone hose rated for 60°C+. Ensure the cooling loop is primed and air-free before powering on. Without active cooling, the ESC will overheat and trigger thermal protection at high current.

Q4: How do I configure the ESC, and is VESC Tool required?
The FD75200 is based on the VESC open-source platform and is configured using VESC Tool (free download for PC/Mac/Linux). Connect via USB, run the motor detection wizard, and set your current limits, throttle curve, and protection thresholds. While the ESC ships with default settings that work for most builds, we strongly recommend running motor auto-detection for optimal performance. Our support team can provide a recommended config file for 65162 motor + FD75200 combinations on request.

Q5: What battery do I need, and what connector should I use?
The FD75200 supports 14–75V (3S–16S). For eFoil use, a 12S–16S LiPo or Li-ion pack with minimum 200A continuous discharge (300A burst) is required for full-power operation. Use a high-current connector rated for 200A+ — AS150, XT150, or equivalent anti-spark connectors are recommended. Always use an anti-spark connector or pre-charge resistor to prevent connector damage when first connecting the battery.
