🛠️ Setup Guide

  1. Verify voltage compatibility — the Manatee 100 ESC supports up to 75V (16S max); the 65121 motor supports up to 20S. Use a 12S–16S LiPo or Li-ion pack for this kit. Factory default firmware is set for 13S — adjust in VESC Tool if using a different cell count. Ensure your battery has a minimum 100A continuous discharge rating.
  2. Connect motor phase wires — connect the 3× 8AWG motor phase wires (It is recommended to use waterproof connectors for water sports) to the Manatee 100 ESC phase outputs. Rotation direction can be corrected by swapping any two phase wires, or via VESC Tool motor direction setting. Test rotation direction at low throttle before installing the propeller.
  3. Connect water cooling — attach the Manatee 100 ESC's water cooling inlet and outlet to your board's water circuit. Ensure water flows through the ESC before running at high current. Secure hose connections with clamps to prevent leaks.
  4. Connect battery — use a high-current connector rated for 100A+ (Firduo 120A–250A waterproof connector recommended). Use an anti-spark switch or pre-charge resistor to prevent connector arcing. Verify battery voltage matches your ESC configuration.
  5. Connect VX3 receiver (UART mode) — connect the VX3 receiver to the Manatee 100 ESC's UART port for full telemetry (motor power, MOS temperature, GPS on VX3 display). Power the receiver from the ESC's signal interface. Pair the VX3 remote with the receiver before first use.
  6. Configure via VESC Tool — connect the Manatee 100 to your PC via Micro USB (included). Open VESC Tool 3.01, click Read Parameters, run motor auto-detection for the 65121 motor, set current limit according to actual usage needs, and click Write Parameters.   7. Seal cable connections — the Manatee 100 enclosure is waterproof but cable connection points are not. Seal all battery, motor, and signal cable terminations with potting compound, adhesive heat-shrink, or waterproof cable glands before water use.
  8. Water test at low power — start at 20–30% throttle in calm water. Verify smooth motor operation, check water cooling flow, and confirm all connections are sealed before increasing to full power.

❓ FAQ

Q1: What is the difference between this 3KW kit and the 2KW eFoil Kit (Manatee 100 + 65111 + VX3)?
Both kits use the same Manatee 100 VESC and VX3 remote, but differ in the motor. The 2KW kit uses the 65111-150KV motor (2KW peak) — lighter and suited for beginners or lighter riders at 10S–14S. This 3KW kit uses the 65121-130KV motor (3,700W peak) — higher torque (5.5 N·m vs lower), more thrust, and better suited for heavier riders or performance builds at 12S–16S. The 65121 also has a larger 12mm threaded shaft for more secure propeller attachment.

Q2: What battery is recommended for the 65121 motor at full power?
For the 65121 at full power (100A max current), use a 12S–16S LiPo or Li-ion pack with minimum 100A continuous discharge.13S 20Ah pack with 100A continuous BMS is a common eFoil configuration. The Manatee 100 ESC is factory-set for 13S — adjust in VESC Tool if using a different cell count. Do not exceed 16S (67.2V) on the ESC.At the same time, do not exceed the power of the motor by 2kw

Q3: Does the 65121 motor require a different propeller than the 65111?
Yes. The 65121 has a 12mm threaded shaft (M8), compared to the 65111's 10mm shaft. Ensure your propeller hub is compatible with a 12mm M8 threaded shaft. The 2-Blade Folding Propeller is compatible with the 65121 motor. Do not attempt to use a 10mm propeller hub on the 65121's 12mm shaft.

Q4: Can I use the VX3 remote with full UART telemetry on the Manatee 100 ESC?
Yes — the Manatee 100 VESC supports UART communication, which enables full VX3 telemetry: motor power, MOS temperature, GPS speed, and throttle progress bar on the VX3 display. Connect the VX3 receiver to the Manatee 100's UART port and configure UART mode in VESC Tool. This is the recommended connection method for this kit — it provides significantly more riding data than PPM-only mode.

Q5: How do I configure the Manatee 100 ESC for the 65121 motor?
Connect the Manatee 100 to your PC via the included Micro USB cable and open VESC Tool 3.01. Click Read Parameters, then run the motor auto-detection wizard — VESC Tool will automatically measure the 65121 motor's resistance, inductance, and flux linkage. Set the motor's current limit as needed and battery current limit to match your battery's continuous discharge rating. Click Write Parameters to save. Custom firmware 5.03 is pre-installed — no firmware update required for standard builds.
